The January Diet Wagon – Have You Fallen Off?

The weeks are slipping by since millions of people made a New Year’s Eve resolution to lose weight . . . and now those folks are falling off the wagon by the thousand.

Here are three great tips to help you lose weight:

1) Let’s be realistic about weight loss. It takes a lot of unhealthy eating and living to build up extra weight and it won’t all disappear in a few days. Don’t fall into the trap of so many dieters and expect miracle results. You need to be patient.

2) No matter how desperate you feel, don’t succumb to the temptation to go on a crash diet. That will only convince your body it’s facing starvation, so it will actually store more calories as a self-defense mechanism. Instead, just plan to eat sensible, modest-sized portions of healthy food – and load up on salad. The fiber in greens will help your stomach feel full and you can still have the odd treat like a glass of wine or some candies . . . in moderation!

3) Too many dieters think they can lose weight permanently just by watching what they eat. Wrong – especially if you sit at a desk all day and slump in front of the TV at night. You have to do some exercise to burn off calories and increase your metabolism. It’s as simple as taking a fast walk, say for half an hour three times a week – more if you can manage it. Don’t use winter weather as an excuse – go to the mall and walk while you window shop! Remember, walking also exercises your heart.
