Benedict XVI: Fasting is spiritual armor
Fasting mortifies our selfishness and makes us sympathetic to those who have little. It opens the heart to the commandment to love God and one’s neighbor, which summarizes the entire Gospel. This the Holy Father wrote in his Message for Lent, presented today in the Vatican Press Room. The practice of fasting helps integrate the person, body and soul, helping him avoid sin and grow in intimacy with the Lord.
