Maintaining A Healthy Weight: Tools For Keeping Motivated
You know that you will look and feel better if you could just maintain a healthy weight, but it is so hard to find the motivation to lose weight and actually keep it off indefinitely. We all know that fad diets don’t work, but we’re not so adept at sticking to effective weight loss plans that we know will ultimately work – IF we stick to it.
The following approaches will help you learn how to keep motivated to lose weight once and for all.
Build Evidence against Yourself
One way to enhance your inner drive to make life changing decisions and take control of your weight is to collect evidence against yourself. The purpose behind this is to prove the point to yourself that that you urgently need to drop some weight, and you can do that by using pitcures.
Take a few pictures of yourself as you are today, and then find pictures of yourself from years past. Get together as many pictures as you can that feature you at different ages and different weights. Then line them up on a table in order of time or glue them down to a paper or poster board.
You’ll find that it’s very difficult to deny that you have gained weight when you are staring at yourself from an outside viewpoint. Do you represent the person you know you are inside? Can you use this to motivate you to to go back to the days of being healthy and thin?
It’s Not Just About The Scale
When you’re trying to drop weight it is easy to forget the bigger picture and only pay attention to the scale. You can motivate yourself to lowering your weight can be achieved by setting fitness goals that have nothing to do with weight. For instance, take part in an upcoming 5K event and decide to walk it. Additional options may be to build up to doing a specific number of chin ups, sit ups, or push ups. You might even plan to build up to doing push ups on your fingertips.
You can train to run if the race is far enough away and you can realistically get into the physical condition to handle it. What you should definitely NOT do however is set yourself up for disappointment with unrealistic targets, so make sure what you set out to do is achievable. Doing so will ensure you maintain your motivation to lose weight in an effective manner.
Create Real Life Or Online Competitions
Bring some friends on board and come up with a friendly competition. You can all chip in to get a nice reward that will be given to the winner.
If its hard for you to find people in real life to do this there are many online weight loss groups that often have many contests happening all the time.
Buy That Smaller Dress And Use It As An Incentive
Perhaps you know of a certain type of clothing that you would really love to put on? Perhaps it’s a little summer dress with light sandals or a pair of short shorts without cellulite and fat jiggling out underneath. Whatever it is, purchase it in the size you ultimately want to get to hang it up in a place where you will see it every day.
You can also put it on occasionally for a visual reminder of the progress you are making!
Realize that most of these tips for getting motivated to lose weight involve forward thinking. It’s about taking action now because you want something better for yourself in the future, rather than focusing on the sacrafices you are making now in order to get there.
